You may have seen a few of the Brady/Belichick era stars in the media these days. Tom Brady will be announcing the Super Bowl. Their influence can be seen everywhere.
Yes, you can apply these concepts to your non-football scenario.
Situational Awareness: Pretty self-explanatory and basic but few people really focus on it. Could be likened to living in the moment, but the key point is that you understand the situation you are in, your limitations, and the moving parts that can change.
Respect your competition: Classic Belichickian language that revolves around understanding your opponents real strengths and why your competition could in fact beat you. The key point to remember here is that it applies equally to all competition levels, whether it's the bottom ranked division team, or the likely Super Bowl contender.
Do your job: Just another term for sticking to the fundamentals. Sounds easy and cliche, but, when you see how many people lack the basics, you can easily see how things can fall apart. Fundamental to "do your job" is a ruthless pursuit of improving your skills and performance. Collectively, this can make a team or individual difficult to beat.
Know thyself: Bill Parcells drove this thought home to his players. As the old saying goes, the truth will set you free. Don't try to be a wide receiver when you are clearly a defensive linemen. Know your talents, and most importantly, figure out how to make an impact with them.
Humble Pie: No matter how well you have performed, there are always things that can be improved. Not always a favorite amongst the players, but an essential ingredient to avoid hubris and stay on your A-game.
The Patriot Way: Basically Tom Brady's way of doing things. Essentially lean-6-sigma adapted to meet the football world.
Belichickian: Bill Belichicks's approach to life and business. A more fun approach to the teachings of Niccolo Machiavelli.
